Etiology and pharmacological treatment of delirious syndrome

Introduction Patients in psychiatric department, especially the intensive care unit, often develop delirium syndrome, which leads to a high risk of morbidity and mortality. The etiology is multifactorial. most common causes are alcoholism dementia. Pharmacological treatment delirious syndrome important part treatment, includes various psychopharmaceuticals that effective both improving cognitive functions. Haloperidol drug first choice from atypical antipsychotics, commonly used risperidone olanzapine. Benzodiazepines tremens. Objectives objective work determine cause those patients. Methods We analyzed 52 patients who were treated for at Department Psychiatry , University Clinical Center Tuzla, Bosnia Herzegovina period January 1, 2019. until June 2022. Data taken medical records hospital information system. Results total number was 23 (44.23%) tremens, rest another cause. other dementia 21 (40.38%) patients, followed by sepsis, infectious tumors 6 (11.53%) cerebrovascular 2 (3,84%) patient. In therapeutic approach all with tremens benzodiazepines: 11 (47.82%) diazepam monotherapy, then promazine 7 (30.43%) haloperidol 3 (13,04%) diazepam, olanzapine (8.69%). therapy syndromes, (37.93%) risperidone, 8 (27.58%), (10.34%), quetiapine 4 (13.79%), olanzapine, clozapine aripiprazole 1 patient each (3.44%).
